Dollmaker’s Notebook | Inside the Heart
Plant and animal kin spirit medicine.
Crafting the medicine hearts for new dolls and talismans. Honoring the Earth, the land, the water, and the more than human kin whose spirit will bring deep medicine to these sacred objects.
I’m working closely with Yarrow, Hawthorn, Salmon, Moss, Seaweed, and Usnea in my personal spirit work, so these factor into many of my creations of late. I’ve also included Mugwort, Motherwort, and black tourmaline in these hearts.
As I sat in ritual space, I felt a strong call to begin working on a few small, full-body dolls as well. These will hold mugwort, snakeskin, butterfly chrysalis, and yarrow.
Snake imagery comes up often in my work and I’m excited to create another doll with their medicine.
Butterfly has really begun speaking to me recently (this chrysalis is from a butterfly my son raised several years back) and I’m looking forward to deepening into their wisdom.
The heart of a grief talisman that will carry Hawthorn and black tourmaline. Medicine for heart healing, protection, grounding, strong boundaries, threshold walking, and connection with the Otherworld.
